Happy to have it

I'm pretty fresh to the RV scene, just got my 2009 R-Pod this year. I joined a group on Facebook for owners and asked for tips for newbies. The first thing they told me was to "get a surge protector!" So, I'm glad I got this one. Haven't been on a camping trip with it yet, but I tested it out at the state park nearby. The instructions are clear and concise, and it quickly checks the current. It's got these yellow LEDs that light up to show different conditions like correct wiring or if there's an issue like reverse polarity or an open hot wire. In the close-up photo I posted, you can see the LEDs indicating correct wiring, and there's a blue LED that shows the surge protection is on. The LEDs are easy to see, even in the shade, and pretty visible in the sun too, especially the blue one. The plastic cover should keep it at least somewhat protected from the weather, maybe even make it waterproof. It's labeled for marine and RV use, and it meets the UL standards 817 and 1449. I reckon it's worth the money.

Affordable waterproof 30A surge guard

This product is tailored as a surge protector for the NEMA TT-30, a plug that RVs often use, and you might also spot it on some generators. It's built to be water-resistant, not waterproof, because there's a gap at the bottom without any seal to keep the water out completely. The cover's got a hump shape that fits most TT-30p plugs, even those with finger grips.
The built-in analyzer is a useful tool to confirm the circuit's got the right connections (check out the picture I attached). Basically, no red lights mean everything's cool. Plus, it's got the ETL/UL stamp of approval, so it's a safe bet.
One standout feature is its 8000 joules protection, which beats most other products that offer around 4000 joules. Another bonus is the 'ring lock' for anti-theft, where you can attach a steel wire or chain to the 2mm-thick steel ring and secure it to a power pole or something sturdy.
I'm a bit unclear on the 'self-reset' or one-time surge protection aspect - it's not well-documented. If it trips or gets hit by a surge, does that mean the internal capacitors are kaput? Or can you just unplug and plug it back in to reset it? There's no 'reset' button like you'd find on a regular power strip, so it might be a one-time deal.
The build quality is robust, so I'd definitely recommend this product. Just remember, it might be a one-time shield for your more valuable RV devices in case of a massive power surge.

I was impressed with the unit. The circuit analyzer was what sold me. There was a problem with incoming power at the campground and it automatically opened the circuit to prevent damage to the camper.

The LEDs tell no lies, it's true.

Protects perfectly. I frequently visit older state parks where the power pedestals are sketchy. The LEDs tell no lies!

Even on a rainy day, there is no power outage.

Waterproof casing actually works. We sat through two days of torrential downpours in Oregon and had zero power interruptions.

Extends my car's cable life

Dealing with thick 50-amp cords in the freezing cold is miserable. Because this analyzer has a patented right-angle plug, the cord hangs naturally instead of sticking straight out. It reduces tension on the wires and extends the life of my cables.

Prevents fires.

I feel better knowing our travel trailer won't catch fire from bad wiring.

Prevented a disaster

Works phenomenally well at older campsites. We rolled into a state park late at night, plugged this in, and it immediately flagged an open ground. We got the park ranger to move us, preventing potential disaster.

Easy visual verification.

Actually incredibly easy to use despite looking highly technical. You literally just plug it into the power pole first, wait for the green lights to verify the circuit is clean, and then plug your camper's cord into the bottom.

Clearly displays faults

Becoming an RV owner means learning a lot of hard lessons. Don't let bad pedestal wiring be one of them. The built-in circuit analyzer is idiot-proof, clearly displaying missing grounds or reversed neutrals before you risk your rig.

Genuinely essential for rv

Does its job flawlessly while looking great. The integration of the circuit analyzer right into the surge housing means I don't have to carry two separate devices anymore. It is tough, incredibly reliable, and genuinely essential for motorhomes.
